Calopogonium Mucunoides (CM) is mainly used as a cover crop, alone or in mixtures with other legumes, especially rubber, oil palm or young forest plantations. Calopogonium Mucunoides is used for green manure. Calopogonium Mucunoides is a pioneer species that provides protection against soil erosion, reduces soil temperature, improves soil fertility and controls weeds. Calopogonium Mucunoides has dense and shallow roots, at least 50 cm deep. The trunk is covered with long, brown hair. They crawl on the bottom and come into contact with the ground. The top of the stem is twisted. The leaves are up to 16 cm long and have three leaves. The hairy leaflets are 4-10 cm long x 2-5 cm broad, ovate.
